She said after the event - “I was really lucky to find such a willing sponsor in Dundrum Nurseries, not only did Frank Alley provide the gorgeous plants but he gave me a huge amount of support right from the design process all the way to the actual build. Frank had a huge amount of enthusiasm for the project, especially for raising awareness Cystic Fibrosis and it was such a pleasure working with someone who is daunted by absolutely nothing, everything is possible!!

“Although we were blessed with the weather, the build was truly arduous work, every morning we would start at 6.30 or 7.00 and we wouldn’t leave until after 9.30. It was back breaking work and was a huge learning curve but we succeeded in creating a beautiful garden that we hoped would go some way to raise awareness of Cystic Fibrosis.

“Aside from the physical work the build itself is actually great fun, there is great comraderie and the other gardeners would never see you stuck. It’s great craic. The best part of the build for me was when the plants arrived, it was then that the garden came to life, when they went in, it looked as if it had always been there.

“During the show, the Cystic Fibrosis Association came on board to fundraise and raise the profile of CF in Ireland. It was brilliant having them during the show as the volunteers were able to speak to the public about the effects of CF on a person and on their families. (many of the volunteers were parents of people with CF).

“I couldn’t believe the amount of people who knew of, or knew someone with CF. It’s a terribly emotive issue and I was glad to have the support of the Cystic Fibrosis Association.

I was over the moon with our silver gilt medal, it meant so much after all the hard work, but winning the people’s choice meant so much more. The garden was appreciated for its design and planting etc but people were talking about CF and that is after all what it was designed to do, which is wonderful.

I have used Bloom as a platform to start my own garden design business, ‘Growing Designs’, based in Carrick on Suir, so its a very exciting time for me. Onward and upward!

“I would like to thank my Tipperary based sponsors, Dundrum Nurseries, Merck Sharpe and Dohme and Pat Cody ltd, all of whom were so very generous”.
