Tuesday rock-climbing continues

Last Sunday our walk leader Josephine Tobin braved very windy but otherwise dry weather as she led a group of 13 on an enjoyable circuit in the Temple Hill area of the Galtee Mountains. Next weekend the usual high and moderate level walks with Mid-Tipp Hillwalkers will depart Cashel at 11am on Sunday May 6.

New participants who are equipped with boots and raingear are welcome to come along and join in for the moderate walk.

Meanwhile rockclimbing for the new season commenced on Tuesday evening last and despite some initially unpromising weather attracted 15 participants for some very enjoyable climbing at all levels.

Rockclimbing continues throughout the summer and leaves from outside the Horse and Jockey Hotel each Tuesday at 6.15pm (weather permitting).

All members of the general public are welcome to come along and enjoy an enthralling pastime that is also a great way to achieve a full body tone up

Larkspur Park Pitch and Putt

This week started with the playing of the Munster Matchplay qualifying rounds at Hillview in Clonmel. Shaun Ryan played very well to secure a place in the finals of the intermediate grade which will take place at Tipperary Hills on the 19th and 20th of May. Shaun also took the intermediate prize in the Brian Maher Memorial Scratch Cup which was played in Larkspur last Sunday. In spite of the terrible weather conditions, there was a very high entry of players from all over the country. The overall cup was won by Paul O’ Brien from the Lakeside club in Templemore, who in his victory speech spoke of his friendship with Brian when they played on the Tipperary Inter-County team. Ms. Kathleen Maher who was delighted to attend to present the cup spoke of her pride in the manner in which her late son’s memory is honoured by the club in holding such a prestigious competition.

Weather permitting a juvenile competition is to be held next Friday May 4th at 6.20 pm. Boys and girls are eligible to enter – the entry fee is €3 or €5 if it is your first time to register. Keep an eye on notice boards for further details about this and coaching sessions on the basics of the game due to commence in the coming weeks.
