Ballingeary ICA were very busy at their registration night at Europlan Training in Ard Goaithe Business Park last Wednesday, September 5.

Over 100 people turned up to register, including members of all the ICA Guilds of South Tipperary and the public, and all have committed to taking part in computer skills, genealogy, project management and social media training that is available free under the project.

The level of interest was enthusiastic and overwhelming, and while originally training was planned for 50 people, the project will now provide training to all those 100 who have signed up.

The course is being delivered by Irish Times Training and is part of Ballingeary ICA’s continuing commitment to both their members and their community generally.

Ita Kiely Ryan of Ballingeary ICA remarked on the night: “this is an exciting and practical project that will enhance skill sets of those participating. These skills will enable all those taking part to play their part in the The Gathering 2013, helping to promote South Tipperary tourism activity”.

She went on to say that on behalf of Ballingeary ICA and all training participants she would like to thank and publicly acknowledge that this project was only made possible by funding from South Tipperary Development Company, under the Rural Development Programme.

Ita and Ann Maria Farrell who have been the steer heads of the project said: “We can’t wait to begin the training and especially to get our teeth into our own Guild genealogy project which is going to explore past pupils from the Schoolhouse here in Ballingeary, which was open from 1900 to 1967.”

They went on to say: “we are very excited to have John Grenham (Irish Times Training), Ireland’s leading genealogist and co-presenter of the RTE series ‘The Genealogy Roadshow,’ working with us to deliver the genealogy training modules and work with the project leaders in developing present and future projects.”

Both Ita and Ann Maria would love to hear from anyone that attended Ballingeary Schoolhouse or has information that would help them in their search. You can contact them about Ballingeary Schoolhouse by email ballingearyica2012@gmail.com.
