RTE’s Jimmy Magee honoured at gala Tipperary sports award ceremony

Legendary RTE broadcaster Jimmy Magee was among those honoured at the lavish Canon Hayes Sports Awards ceremony in Tipperary town.

Legendary RTE broadcaster Jimmy Magee was among those honoured at the lavish Canon Hayes Sports Awards ceremony in Tipperary town.

He received the Mick Doyle Golden Sporting Memory award - named after former Irish rugby coach, the late Mick Doyle.

Magee was honoured for his unparalleled career as a sports commentator.

Other winners on the night were local golfer Aoife Lowry, All Ireland winning Tipperary minor hurling captain Bill Maher, the Irish Paralympic team at the London games and the Irish boxing team at the Olympic Games.

A special volunteer award went to Polly Murphy from Clonmel Swimming Club and Tipperary Community Games.

The awards were presented in Ballykisteen Hotel and Golf Resort by Sports Minister Michael Ring.
