Tipp TD’s anger at cut to rural transport and road budget

Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath has said the news that there are to be further cuts to the Rural Transport and Road Repair budgets is further evidence of a Government that is so focused on Dublin that is appears blind to the needs of rural Ireland. He was speaking after a €115 million reduction in the transport budget and up to €22 million in grants for regional roads and cuts to the maintenance budget for motorways was announced;

He was speaking after a €115 million reduction in the transport budget and up to €22 million in grants for regional roads and cuts to the maintenance budget for motorways was announced;

“There has been a consistent and clear reduction in the priority given by this Government to strengthen rural transport. Minister Alan Kelly and the National Transport Authority called for the restructuring of the rural transport programme even when we know that it will achieve nothing but to denigrate and weaken the already existing services such as Ring-A-Link”, he said.
