Lidl, “Ireland’s Cheapest Supermarket” according to the National Consumer Agency, opens its new store in Carrick-on-Suir from 8am.

The arrival of the store to the town is creating 12 jobs.

The new Carrick-on-Suir store will be a hive of activity over the few days. To celebrate the opening, customers are in for a special treat as they have the chance to win €E50 in Lidl vouchers on the Lidl “Wheel of Fortune”! No one goes away empty handed – if you don’t win the top prize of Lidl vouchers then there are trolley keyrings, sweets and delicious praline seashell chocolates to be won.

On Saturday a massive Happy Family Day will take place with loads of free family fun activities for all ages! Kids will be amused by a treasure hunt, bouncy castle and face painters, to name but a few, between the hours of 11am and 6pm.

On Friday and Sunday delicious doughnuts and hot dogs will be available on each day respectively as another treat to welcome all new customers to Carrick-on-Suir!

According to Lidl the new store represents a new look, ultra modern design, which aims to further enhance the shopping experience for the customer. It also boasts an innovative new baking facility that will be turning out delicious affordable artisan breads from the minute the store opens until it closes at night time.

From Thursday, 18 until Sunday, August 21, there will be a massive 50% off all fresh fruit and vegetables.

Neil O’Rourke , Sales Operations Manager for the new Carrick-on-Suir store, speaking at the announcement of the opening said, “I am really looking forward to welcoming all of the Carrick-on-Suir locals to our new store. Lidl are delighted to be opening our latest store in the county especially after just celebrating our 10th year in Ireland last summer. We have so many exciting activities planned for the opening, there really is something for everyone and it promises to be a great local event for all the families and anyone else who wants to come along and join the fun!”

In addition to stocking their own top quality range of products, Lidl also features big household brands like Coca Cola, Heinz, Cadbury and Weetabix to name only a few.

Every Monday and Thursday sees new weekly specials appear in Lidl stores.

The new Carrick-on-Suir store will be serviced by Lidl’s purpose built 29,000 metres squared Regional Distribution Centre in Charleville. Already approximately 2,500 people are employed by Lidl in the Republic of Ireland between stores, Head Office and the 3 Regional Distribution Centres. The retailer also celebrated 10 years in Ireland in 2010.

Lidl is committed to using as many indigenous suppliers as possible in the production of its own brand products. From locally sourced yoghurt from Irish Yoghurts in Clonakilty, to award winning Glensallagh streaky bacon from Oakpark Foods in Tipperary.

Opening times are Monday to Saturday: 08:00 - 21:00 and Sunday: 10.30 to 19.00.
