Prominent Clonmel businessman and Lions Club member Joe Kennedy died suddenly last Thursday.
There was profound sadness at the death of Mr Kennedy, Ballyvaughan, Clonmel who retired in 2010 from Medite where he had worked since 1985.
He joined Medite as Engineering Manager, progressing on to become Managing Director in 2002.
In 2009, a year before retiring, Mr Kennedy took on the challenging role of Director Innovation and a key role as advisor and mentor.
Mr Kennedy made a very important contribution to the wood based panels industry during his 25 years with the company. He was instrumental in developing the plant in Clonmel into one of the leading MDF manufacturing facilities in the world and to position Medite as an integral part of the Coillte Group.
A much respected figure in the business community in Clonmel, Joe, a native of Dublin, played a prominent role for a long number of years with the Clonmel Lions Club and was one of the primary drivers behind a very successful boxing night at the Clonmel Park Hotel last Friday which raised funds for the local club.
Married to Carmel and a father of Caitriona and Karl, his removal to St. John The Baptist Church, Powerstown was last Sunday and his burial took place in the adjoining cemetery following requiem mass.
