Tipperary town students stage ‘Grease’at the Excel

This year the Abbey C.B.S. and St Annes Secondary School are again collaborating to stage the musical “Grease” at the Excel in Tipperary Town.

This year the Abbey C.B.S. and St Annes Secondary School are again collaborating to stage the musical “Grease” at the Excel in Tipperary Town.

These joint productions between the transition year students of both schools have become one of the highlights of the entertainment year in Tipperary. The show is again being produced by Mr Michael O’Donoghue and the musical director is Mr Pat Marnane.

The storyline is about teens in love in the 1950s. It’s California, 1959 and greaser Danny Zuko (Pearse O’Dwyer), and Australian Sandy Dumbrowski (Ruta Petkute)are in love. They spend time at the beach but when they go back to school what either of them don’t realise is that they both now attend Rydell High. Danny is the leader of the T-Birds, a group of black-jacket greasers including Kenickie while Sandy hangs with the Pink Ladies, Rizzo (Megan Keating O’Connor), Frenchy (Louise Dalton), Marty (Orla O’Connor) and Jan (Faith Cummins) a group of pink-wearing girls. When they clash at Rydell’s first pep rally, Danny doesn’t behave like he did at the beach.

Grease has many well-known songs, which include “Summer Nights”, “You’re the One That I Want”, “Greased Lightning”, “We Go Together”, “ Those Magic Changes” and “Hopelessly Devoted to You”. Also in this musical are songs including “Mooning”, “Sandy”, “Blue Moon”, Rock and Roll Party Queen”, “Hand Jive” and “Grease is the Word”. All these fun-filled songs contribute to a lively enjoyable musical

performance.

The show is being held on Thursday 29th, Friday 30th November and Saturday December 1st at 8.00pm. and booking has opened at the Excel.
