Tesco staff and customers in Tipperary have raised €14,000 for Aware, the Tesco Charity of the Year, during the first six months of its 2 year partnership with the charity. All funds raised through the partnership go directly to Aware’s education programme Beat the Blues which is delivered to students in secondary schools throughout Ireland.
Tony Neutze, Store Manager, Tesco Tipperary said: “We want to say an enormous thank you to our customers in Tipperary who have helped us to raise such a significant amount for Aware. This support has been replicated throughout the country with our customers and colleagues all over Ireland having raised over €500,000 to date for Aware.”
David Carton, Chairman of Aware said: “The support from Tesco staff and customers in Tipperary has been fantastic and we want to say a sincere thank you to everyone involved for their continued support. Depression impacts about 10% of the population at any one time, and the funds and awareness that this partnership brings is so important to our work.”
Aware was first established in 1985 and provides information, education and support services nationwide. Information on the services and different aspects of depression (including depression in young people and supporting a loved one) is offered through the website www.aware.ie. Aware’s Beat the Blues programme, supported by Tesco, is a positive mental health initiative and helps young people to learn ways of dealing with everyday challenges they face.
