Residents from the West Tipperary village Emly are off to Brussles on June 28 to represent Ireland in the ‘Eurovision Song Contest’ of energy competitions.

The village, represented by their tidy towns group, entered the Energy Neighbourhoods competition ran by the Tipperary Energy Agency.

Vincent Carragher, Energy Manager at Tipperary Energy Agency said - “I’m delighted for the residents of Emly. They really got into the spirit of this project from day one and are deserving winners”

Emly emerged overall winners beating off stiff competition from communities in Cork, Galway and Waterford. The Tipp householders managed energy savings of 37%, resulting in massive savings of €740 over the course of the twelve month project.

Other neighbourhoods in the national competition averaged energy savings of 18%.

The Emly tidy towns group received a cheque of €1000 and certificates from the European Commission.
