Carrick Road Runners are delighted to announce that Santa Claus has again accepted an invitation to take part in their annual Goal Mile through the streets of Carrick-on-Suir on Christmas morning.
Santa recently took a short break from his hectic schedule on the run up to Christmas to visit Carrick and meet with Carrick’s Goal Mile organisers at the Ormond Castle, the starting point of this year’s event. Santa said that he was delighted to accept the invitation and was really looking forward to taking part for the sixth time.
“I know about Goal’s great work in Syria and throughout the Third World, helping the poorest of the poor,” Santa said, “and I’ve just heard from the Carrick organisers that Goal Miles are being held all over Ireland on Christmas to raise badly needed funds for this very worthwhile charity. This will be the sixth year that Carrick hosts a Goal Mile and the organisers have asked me to come along again to help make this year’s one bigger and better than ever”.
When asked about his involvement in the street collection for Goal on Saturday, December 22, Santa went on to explain –
“Yes I have agreed to deputise some volunteers from Carrick Road Runners as Santa’s Elves for just one day. Of course my own Elves will be much too busy on Christmas Eve, but you will recognise these special Deputy Elves with their Santa hats and Goal Mile bibs, so please give generously to them when you meet them on the streets of the town.”
Before he rushed back to the North Pole to finalise his preparations for Christmas he told our reporter –
“Sorry, must dash, Rudolph is getting restless, but I’ll be back here at the Ormond Castle at 11:00am Christmas morning. I believe some people will be running the entire Goal Mile route through the town, but I will be joining the majority for a brisk walk and getting an appetite for a big Christmas dinner, mmmm, I’m looking forward to it already!
“So please come and join me in the Carrick Goal Mile, support this worthy charity and do your good deed in the true spirit of Christmas and enjoy a festive drink and snack with him after the event.”
