The Excel Centre celebrated its official launch of three screen digital cinema last Saturday with a fun-packed day of free entrance to movies and face-painting and a colouring art activity corner for children.

“It’s brilliant to see such crowds coming in. Everyone is very happy with the day and are glad that we’ve provided a free family community event to reward our loyal customers and hopefully bring in some new ones,” said Manager Mary Sarsfield.

The Excel cinema was under threat of closing its doors earlier in 2013 when funding to upgrade the old cinema system to the new digitialised software was non-existant.

A campaign to save the cinema was launched. The cinema screens were digitised in July of this year and is now providing ready access to the latest block busters every week.
