Kilsheelan man honoured for passing on water survival skills

William Lonergan from Kilsheelan has been honoured for twenty years volunteering with the Irish Water Safety Associaton.

William Lonergan from Kilsheelan has been honoured for twenty years volunteering with the Irish Water Safety Associaton.

He was recognised at the Irish Water Safety’s National Awards Ceremony in City Hall, Dublin for teaching swimming, rescue and water survival skills.

Ireland averages 140 drownings every year and thanks to volunteers like William, more people now have the skills, attitudes and behaviours necessary to prevent future tragedies.

Presenting the Award was Mr John Perry TD, Minister of State at the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation and the Chairperson of Irish Water Safety, Breda Collins.
