Carrick short story workshop

‘Story Wise’ will take place on Saturdays, October 6, 13 and 20, at the Nano Nagle Community Resource Centre, Carrick-on-Suir from 2pm to 4pm.  This innovative workshop aims to teach clear story writing techniques, starting with some simple writing exercises.  These should get the pen flowing and promote some very free and natural work.
An exploration of the senses will follow and the importance of setting will be discussed. Progressing at a comfortable pace the group will look at character development. A story can often grow from a character. Make them strong enough and you will want to write about them.
Creating realistic dialogue will be an intensive study area. The links between character and dialogue will be identified and built upon. Proofreading and editing will also be covered.  It can be very hard to look at your own work in a detached fashion but ways of achieving this will be explored alongside group exercises.
A brief guide to publishing avenues will be discussed at the end of the workshop. There are more options for getting your work out there these days which makes being a writer incredibly exciting.  It’s not a case of ‘will I ever get published?’ It’s a case of making it happen.
If you want to know more please book a place by calling 0860687982 or emailing karen@ksmoore.com.  This series of three workshops costs E60.  Early booking is advisable due to limited places.
