Cashel Blue launch new product at Expo

Minister Tom Hayes, launched a new product from the world-renowned Cashel Blue cheese company at Hospitality EXPO in the RDS last Tuesday.

The product is a new cream cheese which will be targeted at the catering market and will hope to encourage greater use of blue cheese in the pub and retail sandwich sector.

At the launch Minister Hayes said: “I am really excited about the launch of Cashel Blue cream cheese, which offers consumers a new way of enjoying a unique Irish farmhouse cheese. Irish farmhouse cheese sales are now worth over €12 million annually, including €4.5 million in exports and show the ambition and commitment to excellence of local and artisan food producers.”

The launch is part of a joint marketing effort by members of the Tipperary Food Producers Network, a unique collective of 25 artisan food producers who have worked together since 2008 to showcase, promote and develop food in Tipperary. The producers attending the EXPO include Cashel Blue as well as the renowned Inch House, Cashel Fine Foods and emerging companies Irish Piedmontese Beef Company and Boulabane Ice Cream.

The Tipperary Food Producers Network has a 2020 Food Strategy which they are committed to implementing over the next number of years.

According to Pat Whelan of James Whelan Butchers, network chairperson: “Food is our most natural of resources for which we have worldwide recognition, and we the Tipperary Food Producers are determined to build on this reputation and reap the benefit not just for producers of food but for the county as a whole. We have all as producers created new and exciting employment in Tipperary and further afield and we believe that we can all continue to add new and sustainable jobs in the near future.”
