Clerihan hosts the Tipperary Harvest Food Festival Weekend this Saturday and Sunday’

Supported by South Tipperary Development Company, the event promises something for all the family.

The aim of the festival is to promote and celebrate Tipperary’s rich heritage and tradition of producing and preparing quality artisan foods. It will be held at Clerihan Community Park.

The proceeds from the event will go towards the continued development of the Community Park, developing projects such as a new playground and changing rooms.

Carrie Acheson, the well known “voice of the ploughing championships”, will Master of Ceremonies.

Saturday night features a fashion show and barn dance with some of the main attractions of the festival on Sunday

The invited celebrity chef is well known TV personality and author Catherine Fulvio who will give a two-hour demonstration using Tipperary’s finest foods. Local Tipperary chefs from many of the best eateries will also host food preparation workshops throughout the day.

The Main Food Hall will have over 30 stands showcasing the finest producers of quality artisan foods from the local area.

Experts will give talks and demonstrations such as Paddy Gleeson on Creative Gardening and Denis Ryan of South Tipp Beekeepers.

A wide range of Health and Craft stands will be located in the Health and Craft Marquee, and some great farmers markets stands outside.

The Community Council purchased the lands which is the current Community Park in 2004. Since then the Community Council has worked vigorously to develop the facility into what it is today which consists of a GAA pitch, soccer pitch, training pitch, all weather pitch with flood lighting, and a unique walking track with street lighting all around the park.

The facility has encouraged the revival of Clerihan GAA club after 42 years, which now has a full complement of teams in hurling in football and also the growth of the soccer club.

Plans are currently in place for the progression of the playground and changing room facility. Clerihan is fortunate that the people of the community have continually supported this project and helped make it what it is today and are grateful to our many donors, some of whom remain anonymous, and who have helped make this project a success.
