Concern in Marlfield over flooding threat
The recent heavy rain and the high levels of water in the River Suir have concerns for the residents of Marlfield.
The new flood alleviation works in Clonmel will have the intended effect of raising the water levels in Marlfield. The first major test of the works is yet to come and its knock on effect has to be determined with the depth and extent of flooding in Marlfield. The risk areas are the river bank farmlands, Marlfield Hurling Club grounds and St Patrick’s Chapel basement. The Irish/ Gaelic name for Marlfield is Inishlounaght which translates as Island of Fresh Milk and this may yet come true due to rising waters.
Feeding and Cleaning
The days of Christmas are also the season of over feeding our feather friends on Marlfield Lake. There were large numbers of visitors enjoying the fresh air and family time at our lovely nature reserve. We ask parents who bring food to feed the birds not to feed or leave food on the ground as this encourages vermin in the hungry time of the year. Please note that the water fowl do not eat meat or similar food products and feeding products like this will only foul the lake. Finally bring away the wrappings as it is a poor example of civic spirit to impressionable young children to be given a quick lesson in fly tipping.
New Years Greetings
Marlfield Village extends the New Years Greetings to all our villagers and their families at home or away and wish them a prosperous New Year and we look forward to meeting and greeting you on your safe return to our fair village.
