Don’t forget deadline on pylons submissions, says TD

Independent TD Mattie McGrath has called on residents of South Tipperary to be mindful that the deadline for public submissions in relation to Eirgrid’s controversial Grid Link Project is fast approaching the target date of January 7.

Deputy McGrath was speaking after concluding another round of public consultations in an effort to galvanise support in opposition to the construction of the 140 feet over head pylons in some of South Tipperary’s most beautiful and agriculturally important land:

“The efforts to date by the people of South Tipperary have been magnificent and have been instrumental in gaining this deadline extension from Eirgrid. I am therefore appealing to everyone concerned and to all those who may have put the issue off to re-engage with this hugely important opposition movement to Eirgrid’s plans. “The deadline is January 7 and I can think of fewer ways that we can all make such a great start to the New Year than by helping to protect the cultural, tourist and agricultural heritage of South Tipperary. This is an issue if left unopposed would have caused lasting and permanent damage to the fabric of rural and urban life in South Tipperary.

“Thankfully the public opposition has been great but it is vital that we do not lose momentum. If Eirgrid believe even for a moment that opposition in South Tipperary is waning then we can be sure they will redouble their efforts to get this project through. If anyone needs help with a submission they can call my office for a document that will assist them or they can go to my website or Facebook page where all the issues are discussed in detail,” concluded Deputy McGrath.
