Drangan man wins Macra’s FRS Memorial Scholarship

Noel Clancy at twenty eight years of age is the winner of the Leadership based Farm Relief Services Memorial Scholarship. The national final of the Farm Relief Services Memorial Scholarship took place at the Teagasc Colleges Challenge Day in Kildalton College, recently.
The Scholarship is run in conjunction with Macra na Feirme and a winner is selected to represent each Teagasc college as a national finalist.
Noel, from Drangan, represented Kildalton College. In the national final, Noel gave his winning presentation on Godfrey Bowen, who developed the world famous Bowen Shearing technique, to a judging panel made up of Peter Byrne, FRS Network CEO, Alan Jagoe National President of Macra na Feirme and Paddy Browne, Head of Education with Teagasc. Involved in his home sheep and drystock enterprise, a member of Fethard Macra club and the local drama group, Noel will be busy for the year ahead. First prize will mean spending three months gaining experience in all aspects of the Farm Relief Services business. The winner is paid and given as much practical management experience as possible. The work experience starts after the college year ends.
Speaking at presentation of the award Macra na Feirme National President, Alan Jagoe, highlighted the importance of this scholarship which offers the winner practical experience in the agricultural industry. He said, “Macra na Feirme greatly appreciates the support of FRS Network in running this scholarship. This is an opportunity for a young farmer to gain valuable experience in their chosen industry before he completes his education. Work experience, such as this, will prove invaluable in developing their career.”
Peter Byrne, FRS CEO, comments “FRS is delighted to be involved in giving a student, with real potential and drive, a chance to gain that all important hands on practical experience to open the door to their future career. We pride ourselves in being part of the development of the agricultural industry and this is just one way that FRS does just that.”
