Horse Festival and Heritage Launch for Cahir this weekend

Taking part in the Cahir Horse Festival last summer. Come along this weekend to see all the excitement.

This weekend Cahir will play host to one of the biggest horse events in Munster: The Cahir Horse Festival.

It will be a fun weekend for the whole family. You will be fascinated by the skill and courage when dealing with horses in many different disciplines.

A plethora of equestrian activity will take place, centred around one of the Carriage Driving National Horse Driving Trials events.

The main event is taking place in the magnificent setting of Cahir Castle Island and the cross-country driven marathon is also on around Kedrah Castle, just outside the town.

Also this weekend South Tipperary Tourism’s final Butler Trail event for 2012 will take place in the magnificent setting of the Inch Field underneath Cahir Castle during the Cahir Horse Festival on Saturday, June 30, from 11am until 1pm.

Working together South Tipperary Tourism and Cahir Horse Festival have created an event that will highlight the Butler and medieval heritage of Cahir while making it a fun event for the family. Come along and hear all about the famous siege of Cahir in 1599 from two men at arms who fought in the battle. Dressed in full regalia and displaying a fine array of weaponry these men at arms will tell all about life and times in Cahir over 400 years ago!

Our joint launch will also feature medieval craft demonstrations. Children will be invited to dress up in costumes from the period and hear tales of life in those days. The Butler Trail event will conclude with a free walking tour of Cahir departing at 12.30pm illustrating the towns rich Butler Heritage.
