The Golden Sewerage Scheme is to be included in the Water Services Investment Programme 2010-2013, Fine Gael T.D. Tom Hayes has announced.

This programme covers the provision of major water and waste water schemes to meet key environmental and economic objectives.

The Golden scheme was added to the programme following a review which took place in mid-2011.

“I am delighted to be able to announce the inclusion of the Golden Sewerage Scheme in the Water Services Investment Programme. We have been dealing with this issue for longer than I care to remember with little to no progress made under the previous Government. I am happy to say that will no longer be the case.

“I have confirmed with the Minister that South Tipperary County Council will shortly appoint a consultant to prepare a preliminary report which will set out the scale, scope and cost of the scheme.

“The village is one of the most picturesque in the country and the sight of raw sewerage from houses, be they public or private, was one of the few flaws to be seen. Very few places in Ireland could claim to have put as much work into their community as Golden.

“Great effort has been made with initiatives like the Tidy Towns competition and every aspect of village life, including development of the village, keeping the committee going and adding to the village infrastructure with the addition of a new GAA field and a top-class community centre. Today’s announcement will only add to all that the village already has to offer” concluded Deputy Hayes.
