Lisronagh man Michael Moclair in Macra VP election
Michael Moclair, from Lisronagh, who is standing for the position of Munster Vice President in the upcoming Macra elections.
A young farmer from Lisronagh is one of two candidates for the Munster Vice Presidency of Macra na Feirme.
The election, which will take place in April, could see the local man elevated from his role in his local Rathkeevin Macra club to the national stage.
Michael Moclair, form Ballinlough, Lisronagh, is a diary and beef farmer, and also works as an F.R.S. hoof-care technician.
Michael joined Rathkeevin Macra in 2003 and served on the officer committee in various roles, including chairperson in 2005 and president in 2007. He joined Fethard Macra in 2008 where he was chairperson in 2008 and presidnet last year.
The Lisronagh farmer served as Macra County Development Chairperson in 2005 and 2011, County Competitions Secretary in 2006 and Competitions Chairperson in 2007.
Holding national office within Macra will not be a new position for Michael as he has been a member of Macra’s Rural Youth Initiative committee; a National Council Representative for South Tipperary; a participant in ICOS Dairy Directors’ Programme 2012; and a Macra delegate at the European Young Farmers Congress 2012.
Among Michael’s many achievements in Macra he was a winner of the Steven Cullinane Scholarship in 2004; won the BOI Silver Leadership Award for Development in 2006 and 2009; a finalist in the National Drama Competition in 2006 and 2010; a runner up in the Bord Bia Senior Sheep Stock Judging Competition 2012; winner of the Tipperary Silage Competition 2006; represented South Tipperary ay Mr Personality 2006; and won the South Tipperary Competitions in ‘IFJ Know your Ag Quiz’
In his local community Michael is an active member of Fethard Athletic Club; treasurer and participant in Cashel Pantomime Society; involved in the Fionn MacCumhaill Players, Cloneen; Treasurer of Powerstown- Lisronagh Community Alert Committee and secretary of Lisronagh IFA
If elected as Munster Vice President of Macra, Michael hopes to promote greater interaction and integration between the Munster clubs through the establishment of a centralised Munster Forum; lobby and fight for young farmers in respect of the current unsustainable C.A.P., as this discriminates against young farmers; promote greater awareness of positive mental health, through information workshops; establish regular workshops for up-skilling and training of competition presiding officers at national and regional level
