Move to train people for jobs in Tipp Town

A unique new training programme for the unemployed is designed to prepare them for available jobs.

The Tipp town programme, run by South Tipperary Development Company, will upskill participants for new jobs in the town.

The selling skills progamme will prepare people for available jobs in local customer contact company DSM.

There is an opportunity for a DSM contract with Pinergy, the pay-as-you-go electricity payment service, if suitable staff can be recruited

A spokesman for STDC said the customer contact industry is an invaluable source of employment creation from multinational companies locating in Ireland, and newly established Irish companies, across a range of industry sectors including finance, IT, life sciences and e-commerce.

In Tipperary Town, DSM Ltd are a relatively new player in the Contact Centre sector and have considerable employment opportunities, based on their proven ability to secure high profile contracts with large companies requiring Contact Centre Support.

However, as this is a relatively new sector, many jobseekers would not have a background in this area, and so may be reluctant to make applications for employment in the area.

It is envisaged that following training, jobseekers will have the necessary skills to secure full time employment and to retain employment and become an employee in this sector.

“No prior experience in selling is necessary as the basic communication technique required will be taught”, she said.

The programme will be launched this Thursday, August 28, at DSM headquarters at Rossmore Village with the course starting on September 8.

Over 150 hours of practical hands on classroom and on-the-job training for jobseekers will be provided to successful applicants.

The training will provide the skills necessary to work in a call centre environment and the Open Day provides the opportunity to find out more information and register for the training course.

Charlie Mernagh will provide the training programme and those who take part will learn new skills and develop strengthen and abilities as they learn to understand the theory, practice and structure behind sales; understand the customer; present options such as offering solutions, selling the benefits and managing objections and questions; and close the sale, overcome objections, ask for commitment, confirm and summarise.

In addition to acquiring the skills, there is a credible employment opportunity with the company, who are providing the work placement element of the programme.
