Munster’s largest indoor market opens in Cahir

Mayor of Clonmel, Billy Shoer was on hand last Sunday to mark the official opening the Big 1, Munster’s largest indoor market, in Cahir.

Market organiser, Adrian Cooney was delighted that the mayor was available to cut the ribbon. Cllrs Marie Murphy and Liam Ahearne as well as Tara Moriarty of ‘Local Heroes’ were also distinguished guests and Adrian thanked them for their time and presence on the day. All were impressed with the scale of the market and the variety of goods on sale and said they would certainly visit again.

This indoor market takes place every Sunday in the Cahir Business Park on the Tipperary Road from 9am until 4pm. The market caters for all with a full range of stalls including Designer Dog Clothes and Accessories, paintings, frames, ladies and childrens’ clothing, metalwork, woodcraft, handmade toys, signs, candles, knitwear, furniture, bikes, shoes, baby gifts, jewellery, ceramics, sweets and confectionary, a huge variety of home-baked cakes.

There is also a canteen on site run by Mickey French Davis, a popular local caterer. The country market section has a butcher, fresh vegetables, jams, preserves and pastries.

There is lots of bric a brac to rummage through and all under cover from the unsettled Irish weather. There has also been a pig on a spit at the entrance to the indoor market for the last few weeks with smells that would make your mouth water.

Many more stalls have joined in since the first week, with more to come, there is even a Pet and Pet supplies shop on site now too.

With entertainment outside for the children, food available inside for all and bargains galore, this is a great family day out on a Sunday.
