The enthusiastic community in Cahir are putting great efforts into the myriad of events taking place in the town.

Following a colourful and fun St Patrick’s Day parade, last week, thoughts are now turning to fundraising for the Cannonball Run charities, before the cars arrive in September.

The Cannonball Cahir Committee wish to thank to Gerry Niland and all the members of the Cahir Men’s Shed who did a wonderful job making the wishing well for the Cannonball Run Cahir. This wishing well will be used to collect money for this year’s nominated Cannonball charity, the ’Make A Wish Foundation’ who grant the wishes of children aged between three and 16 living with life threatening conditions. Look out for the wishing well at all Cannonball events and remember the slogan on the well “make a wish and do not tell, drop a few euro in the wishing well!”

The businesses that sponsored the Segways for the St. Patrick’s Day parade for Cannonball also have to be thanked. They are Morrison BMW Showrooms, The Gatehouse Bar, Direct IT Computer Sales and Service, The Big 1 and Buttimer Engineering, not forgetting the ladies and gents who took time out to learn how to use them and took part in the parade.

The Promoting Cahir Group would like to thank all who took part in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and made it the biggest parade to date. Thanks go to the gardai, Gerry Duffy, our MC, Tidy Towns Chairman Andy Moloney for help with marshalling, Murty Cashman, DJ Owen, Niall Grogan for the stage, and everybody who helped on the day. Special thanks to Cahir Credit Union for sponsoring the prizes, we could not do it without all your help. Prize winners: Best Overall Display for the Perpetual Cup – Dance Revolution, who were also first in the Youth Category. Second: Storm Damage, third: Whistle Blowers. Individual Adult Trophy: John Cummins, second Segways, third Wanderly Wagon. Best Float: Cahir GAA and second Tipperary Raceway. Best Youth Organisation: Rince Nua Caislean Club. Best Industrial Float: O.C.C. Refrigeration for the third year running!
