Cahir Coláiste celebrate sporting and exam success of pupils

The staff and students of Coláiste Dún Iascaigh wish to congratulate past pupil, Tommy O’Donnell on his recent success with the Munster team and his recent call up to the Senior Irish Rugby squad. Tommy played a starring role in Munster’s recent victory when they qualified for the Heineken Cup Quarter Final and also for the Irish Wolfhounds against the English Saxons. All in the Coláiste are extremely proud of Tommy and want to wish him the best of luck with his continuing rugby career.
TY Update
The TY classes had two very worthwhile local trips recently. They went to the local fire station to see the hard work of our fearless fire fighters. The classes also gave something back to the community when they helped out at the senior citizens party recently. The group sang and played instruments at the day care centre as well as helping out with serving. The students who attended said that they got as much as they gave from the high spirited and appreciative older people.
Students Excel At Examinations
Congratulations go to Ciara Creagh and Anca Stanciu on their success in last year’s Junior Certificate German examination. Their results were so high that both students have been short listed for a prestigious four week German Scholarship. They are now preparing for a rigorous interview process under the guidance of their proud German teacher, Ms. Luithgard Reith.
Congratulations also go to fifth year student, Kevin Slattery. Kevin got the second highest result in the whole country in the Junior Certificate Woodwork Examination. Congratulations to Kevin and his teacher Mr. Paul Ryan.
CSPE Dail Trip
On January 24 last, the second year classes, Ash and Pine of Coláiste Dún Iascaigh organised a trip to Dáil na hEireann for their Junior Cert action project worth 60% of their Junior Certificate CSPE paper. At the Dáil they were introduced to the usher named Dave Leavy who informed them of the rules and regulations of the Dáil. They were then escorted to the viewing gallery above the Dáil Chamber where they witnessed democracy in action.
Among those present were Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore, Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney, and local TD Mattie McGrath who had invited them there. The students listened to them debating different motions including the orders of business and the bail out for Greece. They learned about the electronic voting systems in the Seanad and the walking vote. They were shown the portrait hall of Taoiseach’s and the Seanad.
After seeing the Seanad they proceeded to meet Mattie McGrath in the Dáil Bar for refreshments and a few photo opportunities.
