Comeragh Mountain Walking Festival 12th to 14th October
There is a new goal in the walkers calendar, a item on their “Bucket List” a must do. To walk the 800km of the Camino de Santiago, from the French / Spanish border to the town of Santiago de Compostela.
BUT – you ask yourself
“Could I walk 20 – 25km a day?”,
“Could I live in hostel accommodation?”
“What do I need to bring, how much can I carry?”
“Is it possible to answer any of these questions here in Ireland?”
YES, as part of this year’s Comeragh Mountain Walking Festival on offer is a weekend experience where you will get to walk 20km+ on two consecutive days, stay in a hostel for two nights, and talk to people who have done part or all the Camino as well as a talk on planning your Camino trip. Also included are dinner, packed lunch and breakfast, plus bus transfer where necessary.
So for more information and to book a place on the Camino Experience go to the web site –
www.nirevalley.com
places are limited by the number of hostel spaces, so book early.

The Comeragh Mountain Walking festival is held in the Nire Valley from the 12th – 14th October 2012 and is currently in its 19th year, which arguably makes it one of the longest running festivals of walking in the country. Based in the beautiful Nire Valley this year’s festival rolls out no less than 11 walks with something on offer for all fitness levels.
In recent years the organisers have added a new dimension to the weekend. After the Saturday series of walks all roads lead to the Community Centre in Ballymacarbry where the popular festival dinner takes place.
During the evening old friendships are rekindled and new ones formed as the chat and craic flow freely and the gathering is entertained by local musicians, singers and dancers.
This year there is a real treat in store as Comeragh Comhaltas Sessiun group will provide the entertainment. It is advisable to book early for the festival dinner as numbers are limited and at €20 for dinner and entertainment it promises to be a very good evening.
The festival dinner is open to all and reservations can be made with Verona (087 9791746) and Ann (086 3924256).
