Encouraging attendance of CCS Parents’ Association AGM

The annual general meeting of Cashel Community School Parents’ Association took place on October 9.

The meeting was very well attended and the fact that it was attended by a large number of new parents was particularly encouraging for the committee.

The officers provided detailed reports on a very busy and eventful year. The successful operation of the book rental scheme and the success of the Grand National Draw were a particular source of pride and satisfaction for the outgoing committee. The most enjoyable and informative information meeting, with guest speaker Mr. John Lonergan, was another source of pride for the Parent’s Association. The construction of the stone wall at the entrance to the school, which was funded by the Parents’ Association, was acknowledged by several speakers as enhancing the approach to the school. The entire school community is indebted to the generosity of the Parents’ Association and to the shrewd financial management of the association over the years.

The Principal, Mr. Eddie Morrissey, in his address to the meeting, outlined some of the key changes planned by the Minister for Education as a result of the revised Framework for Junior Cycle which was launched recently and which will be introduced in all schools in September 2014.

At the AGM the following officers were elected - Chairperson: Ann Wade; Vice Chairperson - Bernadette Lonergan; Secretary: Michelle O’Leary; Assistant Secretary: Catherine Hickey; Treasurer: Pat Cummins; Assistant Treasurer: Fionnuala Treacy; PRO: Miriam O’Gorman. Debs Committee: Bernadette Lonergan, Mary Darmody, Michelle O’Leary, Emily White and Denise O’Donoghue. Teacher/Parent Liaison: Pat Maher and Miriam O’Gorman plus the officers of the association. Dyslexia Support Group Liaison Officer: Jane Doyle

Tributes were paid to Pat Maher who stepped down from his role as chairperson after serving four years. Pat’s dedication to the Parents’ Association and to the school was acknowledged by several speakers as was his efficient and effective management of the monthly meetings. The committee would like to take this opportunity to thank Pat for all his hard work and commitment.
