Playground fundraising a success

Some weeks ago, it was reported that the Playground in Duneske, Cahir had been closed due to essential maintenance. It was further reported that a sum of E5,000 had to be raised to pay for these essential repairs.

In the interim a number of fundraisers have been run and with great success. E487 was raised at a Table Quiz in the Gate House on Thursday 9. A further E313 was raised through a Teddy Bears Picnic in Duneske two days later. And most recently, in excess of E200 and rising has been raised at a Pyjama day in Cahir Bears Childcare Centre on 16.

Added to this, there have been two fantastic donations to support the cause with Cahir Bingo presenting a cheque for EE1,000 to the committee, and a whopping E2,500 also presented by local businessman Andrew Fanning. This leaves us only E300 short of the target, and we still have quite a number of fundraisers to go.

It is expected that the target will be exceeded, and the committee would like to reassure everyone that all excess monies will be lodged to the Playground account, which is ring fenced specifically for this purpose. This should ensure that as maintenance is required, it can be carried out immediately, thereby ensuring that a closure never has to happen again.

The equipment is expected within two to three weeks and it is hoped that we will all be back and running by the second or third week in July, latest. Watch this space for updates.

The Playground committee would like to thank the Bingo Committee and Andrew Fanning for their very kind donations and also a vote of thanks to all those who supported the fundraisers. With more fundraisers to come, it is still not too late to contribute.
