Four-in-a-row county titles for Cahir girls
The Cahir panel who won the U16A County Football Championship.
The final of the U16A county championship was played last Tuesday, May 8, in Ardfinnan where Cahir took on local rivals Clonmel Commercials.
From the outset the girls showed they were up for this game and within 10 minutes were up by 1-3 to no score.
Cahir would lose Roisin Costigan through injury and her replacement Kirsty Arbuckle slotted well into the half back position. Cahir continued to pile on the pressure and went in at half time leading by 2-7 to 3 points.
The girls continued to control the game in the second half scoring 1-2 and keeping Clonmel Commercials scoreless, winning on a scoreline of 3-9 to 3 points and complete four-in-a-row county titles.
This was a total team performance, starting with Keely Halpin in goals and the back six of Joye Arbuckle, Emma Buckley, Roisin O’Donnell, Caral Casey, Aoife Corcoran and Roisin Costigan (Kirsty Arbuckle) proving a very mean defence. Aisling McCarthy and Megan Burke controlled the game from midfield and this ensured plenty of quality ball being supplied to our forwards. The forwards Rachel O’Dwyer, Aisling Moloney, Grainne Quirke, Aideen O’Gorman, Roisin Howard and Andrea Moloney ensured the Clonmel backline were kept busy throughout. The other substitutes used on the night were Judita Jankauskaite, Shauna Burke, Roisin McCarthy and Niamh Murphy.
The club would like to congratulate all the girls and the team management on their success.
