Aherlow won their Ballinalard Transport Ltd West Tipperary senior football championship game against Eire Óg at Lattin on Saturday evening following a dramatic point by cornerback, Mark Hanley, who made a fighting run in the thirty-third minute of the second half and finished off with a point for a dramatic victory, 0-13 to 0-12 Three minutes earlier Damian O’Brien had pointed a free to bring Eire Óg level and it appeared that a draw was on the books.
It was a fine performance by Aherlow, who showed flashes of the spirit and determination one associates with them. They got fine performances from Thomas Fahey, Bernard O’Brien, Thomas Hanley, Mark O’Brien and Cathal Dillon.
Eire Óg will be disappointed they didn’t get the draw, which seemed the likely outcome. They were well served by Conor O’Brien, Donal O’Dwyer, Eoin Kennedy, Damien O’Brien and Oisín O’Dwyer.
