County panellist Sean Curran was the top man for Mullinahone when they defeated Carrick Davins in the South Tipperary senior hurling championships in Clonmel.

Curran, who had scored the winning point for Tipperary in their midweek win over Cork in the Munster u-21 hurling championship, scored 0-12 against Davins, eight from play in the 1-21 to 1-13 win.

Both sides will take some comfort from the game though for both there will be as many negatives as positives. Tipp supporters will worry about the non appearance of Eoin Kelly and rejoice at the display of Sean Curran. They will also be glad that the county captain seemed okay after his “injury”. “Thank God” as one said “for face guards”. Davins will be pleased with their response to adversity when they were down to 14 players. The speed of some of the Davins seemed to trouble a lethargic Mullinahone. Had Davins goaled again during their rally we could have had a different result but they never solved the problem of Sean Curran. For them now it all goes down to the final league section game against the Swan.

Mullinahone will be stronger come semi-final time but too many of those on duty seemed prepared to sit back and let others do the hard grafting. This will not do in a knockout semi-final. However management now have a break to turn attitude around. For the Kickhams, Alan Walsh, AJ Cronin, Philip O’Shea and Jack Shelly showed up as well as their name players. Davins had good shows from Ml. Hackett, Stephen Cronin, Richie McGrath, Ml. Coady and Noel Butler.
