South and county champions Clonmel Commercials proved much too strong for the Aherlow/Lattin-Cullen combination in the county minor football semi-final on Saturday in Cahir, winning 2-23 to 2-1.
Although Aherlow/Lattin took a third minute lead it was clear from an early stage that Commercials held too many aces.
It took eight minutes for Commercials to level matters after some early wayward shooting. By the 17th minute Commercials had opened up a six points to one advantage and had six different names on the score sheet.
When Evan Comerford blasted to the net in the 24th minute the game was put beyond the West champions as Commercials lead by 1-11 to 0-1.
To their credit though Aherlow/Lattin didn’t lie down and two minutes later wing back Sean Cunningham goaled at the end of an excellent move.
A penalty to Commercials on the stroke of half time was converted by full forward Commerford and as the teams went to the dressing rooms Commercials lead by fifteen points
In the second half Commercials were in no mood for relenting . They tagged on ten further points in a very assured performanc .
Aherlow/Lattin’s sole response came in the form of a goal in the 26th minute.
Commercials on the day had ten different scorers and were very impressive in all sectors. The Aherlow/Lattin side while well beaten did produce some good passages of play and the displays of full back John Moloney and centre fielder Mark Russell were excellent.
Commercials now go to the county final in search of a three in a row and on this evidence will take some beating. Darren Cass at full back, Keith Browne who scored 4 points from wing back, Ian Fahey and Evan Commerford were some of Commercials strongest performers.
