Solohead got off to a winning start in the West Tipperary junior B hurling championship at Clonoulty on Friday evening, with a five-point victory over Eire Óg, 1-11 to 1-6

Both sides were very wasteful of their opportunities early on in the game but Solohead got a good run of scores coming up to the interval, including a penalty by Philip Doherty to give them a lead of 1-6 to 0-2.

Eire Óg came more into the game in the second half but failed to take their chances. When Raymond Barry touched home a long-range free for a goal near the end, it was too late to influence the outcome and Solohead were deserving winners on a scoreline of 1-11 to 1-6.
