Kudos to our junior boys after a thrilling one point victory over local rivals Moyle Rover in the Sportsfield on Saturday.

We opened the scoring on four minutes with a lovely point from Peter Kelleher, and this was followed three minutes later by a great move that was finished to the net by Paulie Landers. Rovers came back at us strongly and scored 1.2 without reply to lead by a point at the break, and we were very fortunate that Rovers spurned two clear cut goal scoring chances in the first half. After the restart, Jonathan Donoghue pointed a free to level the game, but our opponents were handed the initiative after we had a man put off for a straight red. In the next 15 minutes Rovers scored four unanswered points and were in the box seat. However, captain David Peters grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and scored two superb points from play on the 51 and 55 minute marks.

The momentum was now with the Ogs, and after Rovers failed to deal with a free sent in towards the goal, Dean Madigan crashed the loose ball to the net to put us back in front with three minutes remaining. Our defence was magnificent during the remaining minutes and we didn’t give Moyle Rovers a sniff of getting the equaliser. The final whistle was greeted with jubilant scenes by players and spectators alike. Score at the final whistle 2.4 to 1.6.
Hats off to the management team of Ivan McMenamin, Christy Aylward and Mally O’ Connor who have invested a lot of time and energy into preparing this team. Over the campaign we have used 30 or so players and everyone has played an equal part in today’s success.
