Commercials romp home by 28 points

South MFC ‘A’ semi-final

South MFC ‘A’ semi-final

Clonmel Commercials 4-19

Mullinahone C J Kickhams 0-3

When these two teams clashed some weeks ago in the league section of the “Sureprint” South MFC ‘A’ it was indeed a mismatch with the Clonmel lads winning impressively 3-15 to 0-5. If the previous game was a mismatch then certainly Friday evening’s game was no match at all.

Commercials had three points on the board within four minutes from Sammy Ryan, Michael Quinlivan and Kevin Gunne. In the 5th minute Jack McCarthy in the Mullinahone goal made a fine save but Commercials had 0-8 on the board by the 18th minute when Shane Flynn goaled. Gary Cronin got Mullinahone’s first and only point of the half in 25 minutes. In the run in to the break Commercials were to score a further four points to leave the score Clonmel Commercials 1-12 Mullinahone C J Kickhams 0-01.

The game was well over at this stage. Indeed it could be said that it was over almost before it began when the Kickhams fielded short 7/8 of their first choice players for a variety of reasons. The huge gap between the sides gave Clonmel the opportunity to give a run to most of their panel of subs which ran to numbers in the high twenties on the team sheet.

Matters got worse for Mullinahone in the early minutes of the second half when Kevin Gunne in the 3rd and Shane Flynn in the 4th minute goaled. A second goal from Gunne after 9 minutes indicated that a record score might be in the offing but this possibility faded as the sub gates continued to open. Commercials continued to add on the points with such as Kevin Fahey and Padraig White getting on the scoreboard but late late in the half to their credit the Kickhams scored the last two points of the game courtesy of Gary Cronin.

Commercials are in the final against Kilsheelan Gaels. Only when that game is played will we know if their passage to the final was too easy. They hardly learned much from their semi-final win. The result was humiliation for Mullinahone except for possibly Denis Connolly and George Browning who played good football to the end.
