Tipperary footballers’ bright start to the new season continued at Sean Treacy Park, Tipperary on Sunday when they beat Waterford after extra time in the McGrath Cup sem-final.
The reward for that victory is a final clash this Saturday against Kerry - a dress rehearsal for the Munster championship game between the counties later in the year.
A venue for the game has not yet been fixed. However it has been agreed to play on Saturday to allow the Kerry manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice play in a club game on Sunday.
Tipp beat Waterford 1-12 to 2-8 with the decisive score a Barry Grogan goal in added time.
Tipp trailed coming up to full time and again in extra time but showed commendable resolve to right back on both occasions for a hard-earned victory.
That spirit impressed manager Peter Creedon who knows that a similar, if not greater, effort will be neeed against the Kingdom this weekend.
But having beaten Cork in the quarter final before the Waterford victory, the team will know that it’s capable of mixing it with the best.
