The first silverware of the year was handed out in Sean Treacy Park on Monday afternoon last to the U14 Footballers of Sologhead who battled back from the jaws of defeat in the closing minutes for an eight margin victory 4-4 to 2-2 over Kickhams in the Jordan Embroidery U14C League West Final

Having gone down by a point in their previous league clash, Sologhead went into the game keen to make amends for the earlier defeat and by the end of the first half were well on their way with 1-3 on the scoreboard while holding their opponents scoreless.

Helped on by 1-2 by Paudie Franklin and an Aaron Ryan point in the first period, the six point advantage going into the second half would be priceless as the Kickhams came storming back with 1-1 by Aiden Ronan and a point by Barry McCarthy cutting the deficit to a single point.

The Kickhams revival continued and with the game approaching the last five minutes they were awarded a penalty and it paid dividends with a well placed shot to the net by Aiden Ronan put them two points up.

But Sologhead weren’t to be denied and literally from the kick out laid siege on the Kickhams goals and made the pressure pay off as Aaron Ryan, Brahim Ryan and Dillon Ryan all found the net to put Sologhead firmly in the driving seat and on their way to victory.

Overall a well contested U14C League Final in which team captain Denis O’Shea, Jack Redican, Evan Hanrahan and goalie Seamus Burns were others to shine for Sologhead.

Unable to repeat the scoring sharpness of their previous encounter, the Kickhams nevertheless battled hard throughout and in Aiden Ronan and Barry McCarthy they have stars of the future.

Elsewhere in the Semi Finals of the TSB Clonmel sponsored U14B Football League, the Emly/Treacys combination and Clonoulty/Rossmore emerged the winners and will go head to head in next week’s final.

In the first of the Semi Finals which were both played in arctic like conditions on Saturday last in Cappawhite, the Emly/Treacys ‘combo’ proved far too strong for Golden/Kilfeacle running in five first half goals and two more in the second period for a comprehensive victory.

In the second semi final Clonoulty/Rossmore and Eire Og produced a cracking game of football and following a titanic struggle Clonoulty/Rossmore who wasted a number of good scoring opportunities over the fifty minutes fought back in the closing stages to turn a three point deficit into a well deserved four point winning margin.

In a low scoring U16 Inter Divisional Football Final played in Littleton on Sunday evening last Mid Tipp emerged the winners with two points to spare over West Tipp on a score line of, 2-3 to 0-7.
