Kilsheelan-Kilcash beat Mullinahone by two points, 2-19 to 3-14, in the South MHC ‘A’ clash in Ned Hall Park.
Paul Maher rattled the Mullinahone net in the first minute. This was quickly cancelled out as Michael Dunne raced through to do likewise for Mullinahone. Paul Maher, from a free, and Michael Dunne, from play, exchanged points. Mullinahone drove forward with points from Nathan Scott, Jack Shelly from out near the sideline and then Scott doubled his tally.
Paul Maher sent a long ball into the path of Kevin Kirwan who registered his side’s second goal. Again Michael Dunne’s response was instant as he opened up the defence for a goal. Kevin Kirwan had a point from play while Michael Dunne sent over two pointed frees and the scoreboard read 2-6 to 2-2. Tadgh Lonergan pointed a free but Mullinahone’s Jack Shelly had a point from play and another from a free from centre field. Kilsheelan’s Mark Kehoe hit a point. Paul Maher, who worked tirelessly throughout, pointed from play. Jack Shelly pointed for Mullinahone and Tadgh Lonergan sent over a free for Kilsheelan. Daire Brennan connected well with Mark Kehoe, who sent over and Mullinahone finished the scoring in the half when Enda Keane made it 2-10 to 2-7 at the break in his side’s favour. Paul Maher had another point for Kilsheelan. Tadgh Lonergan was hauled down just outside the square and he pointed the free to reduce the leeway to the minimum. Jack Shelly hit a goal and Liam Hicks pointed to add to their advantage. Kilsheelan were contesting every ball and Tadgh Lonergan pointed a free. This was followed by points, from play, by Mark Kehoe and Kevin Kirwan as the score read 3-11 to 2-12. The sides traded points before Kilsheelan finally edged it with Tadgh Lonergan hitting the finial point.
