Golden-Kilfeacle survived the challenge of Aherlow to win their match in the West Tipperary senior hurling championship match by 0-10 to 0-8 at Bansha on Saturday evening.

It was a game that never caught fire and it was more notable for poor hurling and broken play from a lot of injuries which made it a very stop-start contest.

With ten minutes or so to go the sides were level and still either side’s game. During that period Golden eventually came out on top with two points by Joshua Keane, who had taken over the free-taking from Jim Bob. This gave Golden their two-point advantage, on a scoreline of 0-10 to 0-8, when the final whistle sounded.

Golden-Kilfeacle with be happy with the result, if not with their performance. They had the edge over Aherlow in skill and experience and should have won more easily but for so many wasteful wides. They had good performances from James Hayes, Jim Bob McCarthy, Paddy Ivers, John Colohan, Shane Stapleton Joshua Keane and Ronan Hayes.

Aherlow might have done better but forward weakness let them down. They missed the Grogans. Thomas Hanley, Cathal O’Shea, Brian Moroney, Cooper Fahey and Sean Dillon were about their best.
