Tipperary minor hurlers started the first half of a wonderful double with victory over Clare in the Munster final at rain-swept Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Sunday, 1-16 to 1-12.

It wasn’t Tipp’s best performance of the campaign, following imporessive wins over Kerry and Waterford in the earlier rounds, but the dreadful conditons made skilful hurling very difficult.

However Tipp dug deep to deny the Banner men three titles in a row.

Tipp dominated the first half after which they led 1-10 to 1-4.

Clare came more into the game in the second period but could never rein in the Tipp lead.

Tipp captain Bill Maher from Kilsheelan lifted the cup at the final whistle
