With Tipperary boycotting the McGrath Cup senior football competition, the only action for the county last weekend was a Hastings Cup game for the under 21s.

And a long journey to Leitrim proved fruitful when they beat the home side 1-18 to 1-7.

Backboned by many of the All Ireland winning minor side of 2011, Tipp went into the game as strong favourites and justified the odds.

It was a heartening display for manager David Power and will boost confidence before a more difficult assignment against Wicklow in Thurles this weekend.
