West U21 A Hurling Final
Cashel KC 2-04 Clonoulty Rossmore 3-12
It was a disappointing finish for our U21s as they suffered defeat in the West final in Golden on Sunday last.
After defeating Arravale Rovers in the semi, hopes were high in the lead up to the game but the team failed to muster the same level of performance against a stronger Clonoulty side.
That said this panel of players are young with many of the players eligible for two if not three more years in the U21 grade, so the future is very bright.
Overall Cashel always played second fiddle, trailing 1-5 to 0-2 at half time, the lads needed a strong second half to pose any threat and unfortunately this didn’t materialise.
The lads tried very hard and preparations had been good in recent weeks, it just didn’t happen on the day.
The players and management can be proud of their efforts. After winning Back to back U21 B titles in 2010 and 2011, the elevation back into the A grade was never going to be an easy transition, so to get to the divisional final with such a young team must be regarded as strong progress.
The aim must now be to go one better in 2013!
Team: Owen Quirke, Paddy Morrissey, Kevin O’Leary, Alan Cummins, Cathal Minogue, Michael K O’Dwyer, Shane Murphy, Jonathan Grogan (1-2 ), Seamus Reade, Gearoid Slattery, Dylan Fitzell (1-1), Simon Delaney (0-1), Eoghan Ryan, Alan Coughlan, Robert Anglim. Subs: Niall Fitzgerald for Alan Coughlan, Fionnan for Alan Cummins and Brian Laffan for Seamus Reade.
