This coming Saturday August 11 will be a busy day for followers of Ladies Gaelic Football in Tipperary.
First up our Intermediate team will do battle against Cavan in Templemore at 12 noon in the TG4 All Ireland Round 3 Intermediate Championship.
In the afternoon our under 16 team will take on Kildare in Crettyard at 2 o’clock in the All Ireland Semi-Final.
After their wonderful win against Sligo in Round 2, Tipperary intermediates must do it all again against Cavan to move a little closer to an All-Ireland Quarter-Final spot.
Beaten by Cavan in round 2 of the Bord Gais Energy Division 2 National League by 2 points, Tipperary will be well aware of the threat Cavan pose. Over the past number of years there has been little between either side and Tipperary cannot to take the Ulster side lightly.
When Tipperary travelled to Cavan for the League they were short a number of players on the day, exam tied girls are now also available for selection.
We wish the team and the management team of Sean O’Donovan, Eamon Ryan and Una O’Brien along with the back room helpers of Kay Lyons and Elaine Powell the best of luck!!
Also on Saturday Sligo will play Longford in our group and the result will have a big bearing on the shape of the league table.
Kildare are the opposition for Tipperary in this All Ireland Semi-Final. There is no recorded history between the sides at underage level so it is very hard to evaluate this game. Two years ago this Tipperary team at under 14 were pipped at the post by a very strong Waterford team in the All Ireland Final.
Tipperary has strengthened their squad this year with players from last year’s winning under 14 All Ireland Championship. Best of luck to Tony Fox and his management team. Hopefully our supporters will come to Templemore and cheer on our Intermediate team before making the 35 minute journey to Crettyard for the Under 16 game.
