Our Junior A football team exited the Championship on Friday night last after suffering a 2 point defeat at the hands of Arravale Rovers.
This was a big disappointment to all involved as it looked like we had just about got over the line until Arravale scored a goal with the last kick of the ball to secure a victory. This was far from classic football with the Village just registering 1 point in the second half and also going for long periods of the first half without scoring too much.
More illustrious players on the night were Frank Culleton, David Quirke and Mike Kelly. All the players will have to get this defeat out of their heads as they prepare to contest the final of the Junior B hurling in the coming week. The hurlers are awaiting the winners of Cashel and Golden which were paired in the other semi final. If we could secure a victory then it would certainly finish off the year on a high note. Best of luck to all concerned.
The juvenile season has come to an end after the finals of the Clubs leagues were played last weekend. The leagues generated huge interest and great crowds attended on Sunday evening. Well done to all the kids and their mentors.
Looking back over the year, the Juvenile Club has made huge strides and the building process continues at pace. Two out of the three under 12 teams affiliated in the division won West football titles. Our under 14 football team secured a magnificent win in the U14 B West final. The U14 hurling team captured both the league and championship West C finals and were beaten by a strong Carrick team in the county final.
The Club had a number of representatives on the West Tipperary U14, U15 and U16 football and hurling squads. Our Club was represented by Colm Hayde on the County U14 hurling team and performed well in the Tony Forestall tournament in Waterford earlier in the summer. This is a great achievement for the Club and for Colm and we hope to see him progress in his hurling career in the years ahead.
We had two school teams collect silverware in the Cumann na mBun Scoil competitions.
The Club have a number of players in both codes playing with teams at second level so all augers well for the future.
We affiliated with Rockwell Rovers at Minor and U21 Levels and this has proved very beneficial for both Clubs.
