A team from Cahir Ladies Football Club set off for Knocknagree, Co Cork, recently to play Sneem / Kenmare in the Munster Club Championship semi final.
The long journey seemed to have an effect on the girls as they started slowly with the Kerry taking an early 2 point lead after 5 minutes. Cahir responded with 3 points to take the lead after 10 minutes but then Sneem / Kenmare took control. For the next 15 minutes the Kerry girls were in total control adding a goal and 2 points to lead by 1-4 to 3 points. But then against the run of play Cahir scored 2 points and then as half time loomed they stroke for a goal to take the lead at the break on a score line of 1-5 to 1-4.
What ever was said at the half time break it was a different Cahir team that took the pitch for the second half. All over the pitch the Cahir girls were winning possession and only allowed the Kerry girls 2 points while adding a further 1-6 themselves to win on a margin of 2-11 to 1-6.
This was a famous victory given they only won their first County Intermediate title this year and now find themselves in the Munster Intermediate Final. The final will take place on Saturday, October 28, where they will play Eire Og of Cork. Details of venue and time to follow. The girls would appreciate as many people as possible would come out and support them in what will be another historic day in the history of the club.
