Tipperary footballers are relegated

A battling performance against Longford wasn’t enough to save Tipperary from relegation at Semple Stadium in the Allianz NFL Divison Three. The 0-12 all draw earned Tipperary their first point of the campaign but they still make the dreaded drop to Division Four for next season.

A week after the departure of manager John Evans, Tipp put in their best display of the league and led for most of the game, 0-5 to 0-3 after twelve minutes, 0-8 to 0-6 at the break and 0-10 to 0-8 with ten minutes to go.

But the loss of captain Philip Austin to a straight red card proved crucial and Longford took the lead in the closing minutes.

However a late point from a Barry Grogan free rescued a point for the home side. Meanwhile the point for Longford ensured their promotion.
