Moyle Rovers put in storming finish to deny Fethard

In the Clonmel Oil South Senior Football Championship in Kilsheelan on a sunny Friday evening last, Moyle Rovers proved too strong for neighbours Fethard.

Moyle Rovers centre fielder Martin Dunne opened the scoring with a point in the 4th minute. Fethard managed the best response with a goal from Carl Maher. Team mates Brian Delahunty and Ciaran O Meara quickly added two further points before Moyle Rovers’ Peter Acheson replied with a point. Liam Boland scored his first point of the game, an excellent left legged kick straight over the bar.  

Fethard’s Brian Coen scored two more points, while Carl Maher pointed from a free.  Moyle Rovers’ Liam Boland replied with two points, one from a free.  Fethard’s Ciaran O’Meara added another point to put them into four point ahead.

It was in the closing minutes of the half that saw Rovers’ Liam Boland and Peter Acheson score two points to leave the half time score Fethard 1-6 Moyle Rovers 0-7.  

Fethard’s Brian Coen got the scoring underway within seconds of the restart with a point.  Moyle Rovers’ Diarmuid Foley replied with a point. Carl Maher added a point for Fethard.

The Moyle Rovers began to dominate at this point with Peter Acheson leading by example for his team-mates with substitute Declan Browne adding a point for Rovers from a free.

The Moyle Rovers defence was extremely solid with Alan Campbll and Richard Power dominating.  In the final 15 minutes, the Powerstown/Lisronagh side completely dominate with points from Sean Carey (3), Shane Foley, Martin Dunne and Liam Boland (2).  

This result leaves Moyle Rovers in the semi final with Fethard and Kilsheelan-Kilcash playing for a possible place in the quarter finals.
