Kickhams overcame stiff opposition from Aherlow in the play-off of the Tipperary Co-Op Super Valu West Senior Hurling Championship at Golden on Saturday afternoon before pulling away to win by 8 points, 1-6 to 1-8

This game was a play-off between the last team in each group to decide on the second quarter-final team in group 1. Kickhams now play Eire Óg in the quarter final, while Golden-Kilfeacle play Cappawhite in the second quarter-final.

Kickhams got their championship hopes back on track with this victory and will look forward with confidence to their quarter-final meeting with Eire Óg. They had good displays from Michael Heelan, Derek Breen, Patrick O’Brien, Jerry Horgan and Davy Butler.

Aherlow have to be disappointed. In all their three games they lacked forward power but they had plenty of chances on Saturday afternoon, which they failed to use. In the second half they were too dependent on Cathal Dillon. Apart from Dillon, Brian Moroney, Ed O’Meara and Paddy Hennessy impressed.
