Although it took all of 26 minutes for Clonmel Commercials to register their first score in the South senior football championship game against old rivals Ardfinnan in Cahir on Sunday, they were full value for their 0-11 to 0-7 win and in the process secured a semi-final spot by topping the group. Ardfinnan held all the aces for much of the opening half but a late flurry by Commercials saw them enjoy an unlikely one point lead at the break.
Commercials will be pleased to continue their winning run and the defence of their divisional crown has been excellent to date. Although they will examine the poor start the management will be pleased at the character and attitude of the team to turn things around.
Danny Madigan at wing back put in an excellent hour. Eamonn Hanrahan, Fergal O’Callaghan and Michael Quinlivan all contributed well to the win as did subs Aldo Matassa, Jason Lonergan and John Harney.
